Auto Accident Repair Process

Whether it is a simple fender bender or a big car accident, West Coast Body and Paint will take care of you.  Here are a few of the steps we take to get your car back to it’s pre-collision state.

Prior to repair work we will remove damaged fenders, panels, grills, trim and/or upholstery etc.  Often hidden damage is found and the inner structure repairs are determined, which we call auto frame repair.

Order Car Parts

Many times we get vehicles with parts that are damaged to the point where we can’t repair them.  So what do we do?  Order parts.  All the parts for your car will be ordered.  If any part needed is special ordered and causes a delay in completion date, we will notify you.

  • New parts
  • Brand name parts
  • Used parts
  • Repaired parts
  • Aftermarket parts*

*Aftermarket are parts installed after original manufacture of the vehicle.  Parts may be new, or may be used components salvaged for repair of damaged vehicles.

Vehicle Structure Repair

Vehicle structure repair also known as auto frame repair is monitored by a computer based system to insure accurate and exact factory specifications.  This includes alignment and frame work.

Auto Body Repair

Your vehicle’s metal body will be repaired or replaced by sheet metal which will be insulated and aligned to exact specifications.  A few of the auto body repair process might include:

  • Bodywork
  • Prepping the body for a high quality build
  • Body alteration and fabrication
  • Undercarriage and frames
  • Panel pre-fitting

Painting Preparation

Once your car’s frame and body is in its correct position, the paint preparation process begins.

  • Body filler work (bondo)
  • Straightening the body
  • Rough shaping the body
  • Final shaping of the body
  • Panel flow and gapping
  • Trimming edges
  • Fitting the headlight buckets

The ultimate goal of the paint preparation phase is to shape the body of your car to its original state.

After sanding the bondo, block sanding, and working on the body filler, we apply the primer. Sanding the body filler and primer is the the fine-tuning stages.  Before each coat is applied, sand as needed.

Before the primer is even sprayed on, we mask up your car and give it a final wipe down.

  1. Primer
  2. Primer Sealer
  3. Base Coat
  4. Top Coat (Color)
  5. Clear Coat

The base coat gets the same after treatment as the primer.  This time around we will pay more attention to dust removal and the primer surface is wet sanded.

We will mix colors until we color match the color of your car using a specialized computer program.  Also depending on your collision repair you car will need more than just the exterior painted but also the interior.

The last step of the process.  Your car will get the sandpaper and buff machine treatment until you are left wondering where the collision on your car had occurred.  And that is our ultimate goal!
